Avista and the Avista Foundation have made more than $500,000 in seasonal contributions to nearly 90 nonprofits in its Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Alaska service areas. About $215,000 of those donations went to Project Share, which provides one-time emergency energy assistance. In all, the company and the foundation donated $2.1 million this year.

Zak Designs Inc., of Airway Heights, has received the 2016 Governor's Trader of the Year Award from the World Trade Club, an international trade organization established in 1946. The award is given to a company in Washington state that has "demonstrated success and industry leadership through its innovation in products or services, its contribution to the local economy, and its service to the community."
