Congratulations to member Representative May Ward with Larry H. Miller Hyundai, on her appointment to the Larry H. Miller Charities Committee Chairperson position. All employees of the LHM group participate in the “Give 5” program, allocating funds from their paycheck to a local pool that will be distributed in their market to local charities. This position will give May the opportunity to assist in determining the local recipients of those funds in her market. Congratulations May, what a great opportunity!
On May 17, EWI of Spokane held our annual EWISP (Executive Women International Scholarship Program) and ASIST (Adult Students in Scholastic Transition) Scholarship Awards Banquet. We were treated to a powerful presentation by Sharma Shields, Author and past Spokane Lilac Princess who was dethroned as a result of life choices she made as a teenager. Her open and candid speech encouraged our students and audience to own up to your mistakes upfront to prevent additional repercussions in the future.

LCAM Reading Rally author presentation was on May 23rd. Students came to the library and author Kelly Milner Hall tailored her presentation to each age group. As they left students received a reading journal and a bookmark provided by the EWI Spokane Philanthropy committee. The week of June 6-10 each class visited the library and students selected three (3) books from the Scholastic Book Fair. The following week students will receive a fourth book. Congratulations to the team at Rogue Heart Media for their wins at the Spokane Regional MarCom Association’s annual SPARK Awards, held in the beautiful Skyline Room at the Red Lion Hotel (another Member Firm!). Rogue Heart won two merit awards: one for their Fire Ops 101 video for SVFD and one for their own 58/25 Washington State Parks Photo Adventure blog. Congrats to Megan and her team!

In June, the Philanthropy Committee will be holding a pet food drive for the Spokane Humane Society. Donations can be brought to the June meeting which will be conveniently held onsite at the Spokane Humane Society.
