Fellow EWI Reps,
As my tenure as Chapter President wraps up, I had planned to write my last President’s message about “finishing well.” But then I came across this passage by C.S. Lewis that emphasizes the importance of each and every decision we make along the way:
“Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance. The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few months later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of. An apparently trivial indulgence in lust or anger today is the loss of a ridge or railway line or bridgehead from which the enemy may launch an attack otherwise impossible.”
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity. Reflecting on last month’s Chapter business meeting in light of this passage, I think we can all agree we had a challenging discussion on how to protect the substantial, invested scholarship funds raised by hardworking representatives of EWI through the generous giving of EWI of Spokane’s Chapter firms and others. During that discussion, I observed lots of little decisions being made and small, good acts done. I would like to thank each and every one of you who was present for your contribution to the meeting – whether it was a comment, question, thought, idea, frustration, insight, or just a listening ear. I also want to thank you for offering patience, apologies, and/or forgiveness. I came away from that meeting with a reaffirmed belief that our Chapter’s representatives take seriously the task of protecting our Chapter’s assets and that, together, we will make the best decision possible to protect those funds and ensure EWI of Spokane’s ongoing support of education in our local community well into the future. Good may not be easy to do, but it’s worth it. 😊
To close things out, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as Chapter President. I learned and grew and got to know some amazing women through board service. To the women on my Board, I am so grateful to each of you for all the hard work, love, and dedication you put into our Board and our Chapter over the last year. I could not have accomplished a sliver of the success we realized without your help and support.
