Projects
Our philanthropy committee plans activities throughout the year to give back to the community. There are themed donation drives, volunteer projects, and group activities for a cause. This past year, EWI of Spokane facilitated the following philanthropy projects:
- Meals on Wheels Clothing Drive
- Coats for Kids
- Santa Express
- Jingle Bell Run
- ASIST Program Holiday Donations
- Parade of Paws
- Every Woman Can Pink Ribbon Run
One of our members’ favorite activities is Santa Express. Santa Express is a holiday retail store for kids in the community to shop for their families while benefiting the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. Kids arrive with a budget and a list of family members to shop for. Since parents are often on the lists, volunteers are needed to assist the kids in buying presents for the people on their list while staying in budget.
Literacy Initiative
EWI is committed to the international promotion of literacy, which has been the focus of EWI’s philanthropy projects since 1992. EWI members dedicate their time and talents to a variety of philanthropy projects to increase literary awareness among both children and adults. EWI Chapters across North America have enlisted the aid of corporations, writers, teachers, and many others to promote reading and writing opportunities to children. Projects vary from Chapter to Chapter but all with the same goal, to make a lasting and positive impact on our communities.
Reading Rallies
“Reading Rally” events are one of the ways EWI promotes literacy in the community. Throughout the years, these events have enriched lives by gaining knowledge, meeting a diverse group of people, and making a difference in today’s youth across the nation. It has made a difference for more than 17,000 children across the country.
